Therapeutic Approaches

I have experience with individual and group therapy and use different therapeutic approaches to support and cater to your wellness. This can include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Narrative Therapy, Somatic Work and Mindfulness. Whatever approach we use, compassion, empathy and grace are at the core of how we do our work together.

  • Decolonized Therapy is an approach to therapy and mental health that integrates perspectives and practices that challenge and move beyond traditional and oppressive western frameworks. It acknowledges the impacts of colonization and systemic oppressions on mental health and well-being. This can include intersectionalites (how various aspects of identity such as race, gender, sexuality, class and how they intersect). Addressing power imbalances in the therapeutic relationship and empowering individuals to take an active role in their healing process. Decolonized therapy emphasizes the importance of community supports and collective healing. The individual well-being is connected to the well-being of the community.

  • The fees for a 50-minute session are $200. Fees for a 80-minute session are $300. Payment can be made at the end of the session by e-transfer to katherine@amarawellnesscollective.ca. As a Registered Social Worker many insurance providers do provide coverage, please check with your personal provider. Once payment has been received a receipt will be sent to you to submit to your insurance provider.

  • During our initial session we will collaborate and create a plan that's specific to you and your needs. Empathy and compassion are at the center of the different therapeutic approaches that I use during session. I offer a free 20 minute consultation to see if we are a fit

  • In person at Suite 208 1011 9th Ave SE, Inglewood Calgary AB. Virtual sessions available to Alberta residents.

  • I have lived experiences as a racialized bicultural woman in Canada. I received my Bachelors of Social Work in 2006 from the University of Victoria. In 2015 I graduated with my Masters of Social Work from Dalhousie University. I am also a member with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
